Five common mistakes when listing dead stock

Most listings that get no response share the same few problems. They are easy to fix.

By Team ClearLot. 2 November 2026.

1. No photo, or a poor one

A listing without a clear photo of the real stock looks casual. Take the photo in daylight, show the cartons and the labels, and keep it sharp.

2. A vague quantity

"Lots of stock" tells a buyer nothing. Give the number of units, the pack size and the number of cartons or pallets.

3. No proof of purchase

A purchase invoice, GST certificate or stock list shows the stock is genuine. Keep a copy ready to share with a serious buyer.

4. Hiding the condition

Say plainly whether the stock is new, open box, used or scrap, and mention any damage. Honest listings avoid disputes and waste fewer calls.

5. Leaving the listing incomplete

Buyers respond more to complete listings. If you are missing a photo or a proof, add it today, and tell us the city the stock is in so nearby buyers can find you.
