Who buys surplus stock in bulk in India?
Surplus stock is bought by wholesalers and distributors, retailers and shop chains, resellers and online sellers, factories, exporters, contractors, scrap and recycling dealers, and institutions. Which one pays best depends on what the stock is and how old it is.

Short answer
Match the stock to the buyer. Sellable goods in good condition go to wholesalers, retailers and resellers. Raw material, parts and machinery go to factories and project companies. Goods made for another country go to exporters. Material that can no longer be sold as a product goes to scrap, salvage and recycling dealers.
Wholesalers and distributors
They buy large lots of goods that still sell, then sell on to shops. They like known brands, a full range of sizes or models, and a clear reason for the surplus. They pay a fair price for good lots and move quickly if the proof is clear.
Retailers and shop chains
Shops and chains buy clearance lots to sell at a discount in their own stores. They want stock that looks good on a shelf, so photos and packing matter.
Resellers and online sellers
People who sell on marketplaces and social media buy mixed and branded lots at a discount. They are price sensitive and usually take smaller quantities, so a lot split into sensible sizes sells better to them.
Factories and manufacturers
Factories buy raw material, components, packaging and used machinery for their own production. For them, quantity, specification and test or make details matter more than looks.
Exporters
Exporters look for goods they can sell abroad, and for export surplus and export rejects from other makers. They care about quality, labels and compliance.
Contractors and project companies
Builders, contractors and project companies buy electrical goods, hardware, fittings, furniture and industrial items for sites. They buy by project need, so stock that is available in a large, matching quantity suits them.
Scrap, salvage and recycling dealers
If stock is damaged, expired, obsolete or cannot be sold as a product, it still has value as material. Recyclers and salvage dealers buy metals, plastics, e-waste, paper, textiles and similar material, usually by weight. Tell them the material, the quantity in kilograms or tonnes, and where it is. Expect a lower price than a product buyer would pay, in exchange for a quick, certain sale.
Institutions and government suppliers
Schools, hospitals, offices and government suppliers sometimes buy furniture, equipment and stationery in bulk. They need proper invoices and clear specifications.
How to choose the right buyer
- Good condition and a known brand: wholesalers, retailers and resellers.
- Old but working goods: resellers, exporters of used goods and project buyers.
- Parts, material and machinery: factories and project companies.
- Damaged or expired material: recyclers and salvage dealers.
- A very large lot of one item: one wholesaler or one project buyer, not many small ones.
How to reach bulk buyers
You can call wholesalers and dealers in your own market, ask your past customers, post in trade groups, or list the lot on a stock board where bulk buyers already look. On ClearLot, buyers browse lots by category and tell us which lot they want. Our team speaks to the buyer before connecting them with you, and your identity stays private until then.
