Liquidation stock in India: how to sell it and who buys it
Liquidation means selling stock quickly, usually below cost, because holding it costs more than the discount. In India, liquidation lots are bought by liquidators and bulk traders, wholesalers, discount retailers and resellers. A seller can deal with one liquidator, or reach several buyers directly and compare offers.

Short answer
To sell liquidation stock in India, count and describe the lot, take clear photos, keep the purchase invoice ready, decide the lowest price you can accept for the whole lot, and offer it to more than one buyer: a liquidator, wholesalers, discount retailers and resellers. A liquidator gives speed and certainty at a low price. Reaching several buyers usually gives a better price.
What is liquidation stock
Liquidation stock is inventory a business wants to convert to cash fast. It is not always damaged. Much of it is perfectly good goods that no longer fit the seller: a cancelled order, a closed shop, an old season, a changed model or a bigger purchase than the market took.
Who buys liquidation lots
- Liquidators and bulk traders, who buy whole lots at a discount and resell them
- Wholesalers and distributors, for goods that still sell through shops
- Discount and outlet retailers, who put clearance goods on their shelves
- Online and market resellers, who take mixed and branded lots
- Exporters, for export surplus and goods that suit another market
- Scrap and recycling dealers, for material that cannot be sold as a product
What a liquidator usually does
A liquidator takes the risk of reselling, so the offer is low. In return the sale is usually quick, the whole lot goes in one deal and the buyer collects it as it is, where it is. Expect the offer to depend on the brand, the age, the condition, how complete the lot is and how fast you need it gone.
Liquidator or several buyers
- One liquidator: fastest and simplest, lowest price, little chance to compare.
- Several direct buyers: slower by days, usually a better price, and you can split a lot by grade or size.
- Both: keep the liquidator as the last option and offer the lot to others first for a fixed number of days.
Lots that sell well as liquidation
- Cancelled-order and over-ordered stock
- Old-season and discontinued models
- Customer returns and open-box goods, graded honestly
- Closing-down and shifting stock
- Export surplus and export rejects
- Near-expiry goods with the dates stated truthfully, never changed
How to get a better liquidation price
- Give an exact count and condition so the buyer does not price in the risk of the unknown
- Photograph the stock and the labels, and have the purchase invoice ready
- Sell the whole lot together and separate any part that is clearly worth more
- Say when you can hand it over, and make collection easy
- Talk to more than one buyer before you accept an offer
Warning signs
- A buyer who asks you to pay a fee, deposit or insurance before they buy
- Pressure to decide in minutes or to dispatch before payment
- No business name, GST number or address
- A price far above the market with no reason
- Anyone who wants your goods released before the money has reached your business account
How ClearLot helps
If you hold liquidation stock, list it on ClearLot so bulk buyers can see it by category and tell us which lot they want. ClearLot is a free-to-list stock board in India. Our team checks every lot before it goes on the board, and the seller's name, business name and phone number are not shown to visitors. When a buyer is interested, we speak to them first and then connect the two. ClearLot does not buy, hold or transport stock and is not a party to the deal: price, payment and dispatch are agreed between seller and buyer.
